Spent a couple of days at Lesser Slave Lake in northern Alberta last weekend. It rained a lot making photography difficult. However, I spotted this warbler in the rain, thinking maybe a female American Redstart, but doesn't look quite right. Any thoughts?

Gary

This looks like a 1st summer male American Redstart to me, I've only seen the males & females as adults though. Hopefully some one will be able to confirm my ID.

I'd go with a female Am. Redstart - according to David Allen Sibley's Guide to Birds there is too much yellow on the sides to be a first year male.

Gary, I agree with Mia and Cindy that this is a 2nd calendar year (1st summer) male. The immature males show an orange tint to the yellow flanks that females don't.
