Comp not really working for me, I would like to see the stick /dragonfly more to the right, apart from that its fine

Agree with Dave, above, re the composition and the lack of enough DoF doesn't help it either!

Dave
Thanks, I have reworked the image (re composed and tried to lift the image with a very light touch of vibrance and saturation) WDYT

Peter,

The comp on the first image is ok, in the second the dragonfly is about to leave the frame and doesn't sit right... the main problem you have is that it is far too contrasty... you do not say if it is shot in raw, but reduce the contrast on conversion and it will improve no end....

Phil
Here is the first version, less contrast and just straightened the reed.

Peter,

That IMO is a huge improvement.... it now has detail in the darks etc....

Thanks Phil
I have to agree a great improvement.

I have had to alter my processing with the MK4 (previously mk3) and also with Adobe CS5 the levels adjustment and others are more aggressive or should I say need finer adjustments than CS4. IMO...

Hi Peter,

I agree the contrast levels look a lot better in the second repost, although I think it could maybe do with a touch more contrast. In terms of the crop, in the second repost I would prefer a bit off the right (but not as much as in your 1st repost) and a bit more on the left.

Otherwise a nice image which is sharp throughout the length of the insect. The light conditions don't look the kindest and the image would be further improved if taken in softer light IMO.
