Maxwell Wildlife Refuge
I had the chance to do some shooting Saturday morning at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge near McPherson Kansas. The refuge is in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas and I got this shot showing the Smoky Hills being "smoky"...which is actually just hazy. It was interesting to me for that reason, but personal interest doesn't always translate into an interesting photograph. What do you think of this shot?

Canon 40D, 210mm, ISO 400, f8.

BTW, there are lots of wildflowers blooming at the McPherson County State fishing lake at the refuge.

I like it a lot, Scott. Nice balance, and the color is beautiful - even if a little hazy. Lots of mood to like here too. Wonderful shot.

It has mood but I am not sure on the composition. I think it would work better if you could get a higher view to get more receding ridges and less of the too dark foreground.

this isn't one of my favorites of yours, Scott, but I do appreciate how hard it is to find a scenic view at Maxwell--how were the bison and elk?

At first I thought this was a little dark. But, I think it adds to the general melancholy, smokey scene. This may only be germane for those of us who live on the prairie.
I would clone out the water towers on the horzion.

The light is nice and the hazy conditions and colors give it a nice mood. I think this image would appeal to a wide audience and may be marketable as a calendar image. Nice work Scott.

Scott, I like it. It may work well in black and white also.
