Painted Rocks, Painted Meadows (Paint Mines #1)
I'll interrupt posting images from my trip last month for a few I took on Tuesday at the Paint Mines near Calhan. I actually planned on visiting here at the very end of my May trip but the wind on that day was horrendous so I decided to postpone stopping there until later. Glad I did. Conditions on Tuesday were, for the most part, calmer with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, storm clouds later (which made for a few dramatic images) that cleared for some subtle sunset light. Some pockets of wildflowers here and there, mostly golden banner, also made things interesting.

Above, one of the last shots of the day: Banner Sunset.

Wow, great stuff, Joshua. I really like 2, 3, and 5. Is that hand a real petroglyph or something more recent?

Paul, my best guess is that the handprint is recent since it seemed to be made out of redish/orange clay (almost as if someone had dipped their hand in the dirt below this formation after a recent rain and then pressed it onto the rock). It looked like it was capable of washing away after a few storms, although I'm not 100% sure and didn't see any deep footprints or handprints in the ground around this area.

Wow, great stuff here Josh. Well done on the compositions and showing the colors of the "paint". You sure have had a productive couple of weeks.

Great stuff. I was almost sold on a trip to Paint Mines - this series seals it.

Nice set Josh. The 1st and 4th ones really show how green everything is right now which contrasts very nicely with the reds and oranges. This place offers so much in such little space that sometimes comps I've seen are too busy and chaotic, but you've managed to capture a sense of complexity but keep it organized and give it order, which isn't easy to do here. Well done :toast:

Josh, Certainly appears to be a colorful area with many features. Also seems to possibly be a difficult place to shoot.

I agree with TC, some of the best stuff I have seen from there. That hand shot is classic. :toast:

Josh, these are terrific! The word paint totally desribes this. The colors are fantastic!
