Hello

I've just joined the forum and have enjoyed the images (especially the Pygmy owls).

I'm located in Mid-Suffolk and am using a Canon 350D with 400 L F5.6 with/without a Kenko pro300 1.4 TC.

The following image is from January this year. ISO800 I'm afraid.

Hi Antony

I like your first post, a fantastic sight to see and capture the vole really adds, it could probably use a little more sharpening and maybe up the saturation, it might help to make it pop.

Antony

Welcome to the forum

Hope you don't mind, but I think there is a lot more to come out of this image - here is a slight revamp adjusting the curves to increase contrast, a slight colour desaturation to cool down the contrast ramping of colour increase and tweak to black and near white point colour balance - your original has a slight red cast

Oh yes and an excellent shot to boot!

Welcome and a nice first post to open with, Mikes repost shows that you can drag a touch more out of this fine image...

BTW... if you fade Curves to Luminosity, or work with a curves adjustment layer set to a blend mode of luminosity there will be no colour or saturation shift....

Hi Antony, welcome to the forum. It's a stunning action shot you have managed here. Techs have been covered above, but I must say your photo is also showing some unique behavior. Mostly (if not allways) when I have seen Owls fly with prey, they have been using their talons to carry the prey. Maybe Barn Owls are different ?

Superb shot Antony. Something like Noise Ninja on a layer mask would sort out the colour noise on the bg.

Hello

Thanks for the replies. I'm always interested (as are most of us I guess) in ways of improving post pro'.

The original RAW file was underexposed (I was watching another Barn owl when the vole transporter - it's mate - appeared from nowhere and flew straight past my blind I'd set up). It has been de-noised in Neat Image but the underexposure is doing me no favours here.

Thanks all
