Color cast question - UPDATE

I've had my Pantone Huey monitor calibrator for maybe 3 years. It was working fine and suddenly I am getting either a cyan or magenta cast after calibrating. It's especially noticeable in the whites of an image. I went to the gretagmacbeth site and under "questions" found one that fit what was happening. They are sending me a free replacement unit which should arrive this week. My question is...could there be anything else causing this in case the replacement doesn't do the trick? I use an ASUS laptop for photo editing with a Sony LCD monitor. Thanks for any thoughts!

There are all the obvious possibilities: Have you changed anything else in the meantime, like the operating system, the software that runs the Huey? Or, have you changed the settings (without knowing it) from what you had before? Has the lighting in the room changed? Physically that sensor on the Huey is pretty small; a little bit of dust could prevent it from operating normally. You could try blowing the sensor holes clear with a shot of compressed air.

I downloaded an update on the software but the problem was occuring before I did that. I was hoping THAT might make a difference....it didn't. No settings changes. I have the Huey set up to constantly monitor and adjust when the room light changes. I have always had that so no change there. The dust in the sensor holes is certainly a possibility...I'll give that a shot. Thanks so much Pat!

PS - when I run a calibration, what SHOULD be the range of whites and blacks have a definite green tint. I'm sure it's in all the colors but isn't as noticeable.

My Gretagmacbeth ione display 2 did exactly the same thing. It worked beautifully for 3 years then started calibrating all of our monitors with a blue cast. I just received a ColorMunki to replace it and so far am very happy with it. It can also profile my projector.

Got my replacement Huey today and they actually sent a one step up upgrade...sweet! Anywho, just installed and ran it and it's all good again, YAY! See if it holds.

*UPDATE*
Thought I'd share the latest on my color cast saga. Shortly after my last post it was going all wonky again. Yesterday the new Huey Pros calibrations wouldn't hold for more than a few minutes. After much phone time with ASUS & Sony it boiled down to a relatively simple solution. We were connecting the laptop to the monitor with an analog cable. My Vista driven laptop requires a digital cable to communicate properly with the Sony monitor. $50 later, Huey Pro is working like it should and the color is vibrant like never before!
