Great Horned Owl
Got this in RMNP as I'm sure many others have. My wife and I come out here 3 or 4 times a year and are both looking forward to retirement and spending 8 months rather than 8 weeks a year here. The scenery, and wildlife alone, but also the proximity to all the other National Parks, make Estes Park, Colorado an awesome place to live.

Great catch. I'm certain I hike by these all the time and never notice.

Cool find. Did you use some fill flash or brighten the owl more in post processing? If so, I think it definitely helped isolate the owl from the background. I would maybe consider taking a little red out of the eyes but a nice image for sure.

Thank you all. Josh, yes I used a flash or would have gotten nothing but a silhouette. I had MAJOR red eye and took it out in the RAW process in CS4. Evidently I didn't get it all!!

Really like your owl image. Very nice color. I agree, I would love to live in or around Estes Park.

Grear catch, and a fine job of 'development'.
Doesn't have that 'flashed' look, and what could have been a problematic background was saved with the limited DOF. Good work!

Great shot but the background looks like it was blurred in PS?

Good job of finding this Great Horned isolated away form many branches (always my issue with these guys). I also think you did a good job with the red eye for the most part. Might ahve left some, but better than I have done with it in the past.
