Green Woodpecker
Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis) - female

Canon 1Ds Mk3, 600/f4 + 12mm extension tube, WH2 + Gitzo 3530LSV, two off camera flash units 580EXII set to manual fired with Pocket Wizard radio triggers.
Manual exposure mode f11, 1/250, iso 160.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS4, full frame.

Another long-term project has come to fruition. I can’t remember how long I’ve been trying to get these birds to come to feeders, but I finally got them to figured it out and have both male and female coming on a regular basis. The only problem is that I get Great Spotted Woodpeckers too and the male GSW is very aggressive and drives the Greens away when he sees them, although they are twice his size.

Not much to not like about this , if anything at all.
Great when a long term plan comes up trumps. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Hi Phil
Have come back to this a dozen times.
Tech wise this is perfect but I am afraid for me it's a bit too " studio " lit.
Just my personal opinion.
Still a great shot.

Lovely image, they are really hard to get a 'clean' shot of,bird looks a tad bright and the bait hole in the trunk may need a bit of work, beautiful detail in the bird   :wavey:
