One of the few decent images to come out of many I took last weekend at Conwy RSPB reserve. I know it would be better with a catchlight in the eye but the sun wasn't out. Slight crop on top and right edges for comp.
Canon EOS 40D
Canon 100-400 l IS lens at 400mm
1/200 sec
f 8.0
ISO 400
Minimal tweeking DPP and CS2
Camera/lens resting on viewing slot in screen.
This is a lovely image, and great to see it with it's beakfull.
I did however, take the liberty of downloading the image, and adding a few adjustments in PS as I felt it was lacking light and such...hope you didn't mind.
I firstly adjusted the levels, brightness and contrast, then the vibrance, also a little smart sharpen.
It has improved the image very nicely imho. Should you wish for me to post it here, I would be happy do do so if it helps.
A very nice image that could do with a little more work.
Hi Fran, yes I would like you to post your version so I can see how do do it ! I have not yet got the hang of post processing my images to any great extent.
Hi Andy
Nice of Ma French to ask before posting the adjusted image
She's done a good job too. A very good job
The only final problem is the perch but you can't do a lot about that. Well you could maybe reduce the diameter of it . Not many birds look good on a flat top fence post- unless its a biggie of course !
Cheers

Thanks Fran, it has certainly improved no end, especially around the eye. I will have to spend some serious time at the computer learning my way round Photoshop.
Fran's re work has really brought your image to life. Think it could still do with a bit more saturation, just to liven it up a tad more. Nice to see a beak full of food as well.
Re-post is great bringing the bird to life, you have great detail in the bird too, just a tad of saturation now to bring the wonderful colours of the Robin out Andy
Thanks for all the tips and advice. As suggested by Craig I have added a touch of saturation to Fran's image, what do you think? Have I gone a touch too far?
No need to learn your way around photoshop, it should only be used to fine tune an image. Getting the exposure right in the field however...
Nicely composed shot, though
a nice composition and pose but the original is certainly under exposed. It looks like some positive exposure compensation was needed in camera as perhaps the bright background was fooling the camera. The repost looks about right to me.
Very nice Andy, your repost and the added saturation works a treat.
As Simon rightly says, getting the exposure etc right in camera makes all the difference, I look forward to seeing some more of your posts very soon. Well done.
