...I hasten to add he/she is not threatening me, but another Skua that had landed too close this one's mate.
Big birds these and as the season draws on and the chicks arrive, they get more aggressive apparently.
There were lot's of them sitting around but the challenge for me was to get one in threat mode, head on and in the right light - I think I've nearly got there except for the light.
Slight crop.

You've certainly achieved the threatening position goal. I think I'd have preferred if this one was in portrait format though, as all the attention seems to be concentrated in one section of the frame here.
Light looks dull, but on the whole the image looks like it could do with about a third of a stop more light;
I'm still getting used to my new monitor, which is incredibly bright, and even on that this image looks a little dark.
Image looks indeed underexposed, but still a good action shot. The position of the bird is a bit central though. Do you have some more space on the left side?
Thanks guys. I found that birds invariably faced into the wind, and usually I ended up shooting into the light - if I recall, this was the case here, even though it was misty. I'll have play however and see. Chrs

Looks like it was taken on a typical summer day at Hermaness Lightening it up a bit should make a great image.
was a good shot originally, but the levels tweak has improved it no end :) nice one.

Lovely shot, and i can guarantee from personal experience you don't want one of these attacking you especially not when your drunk and riding a pushbike
