So here is the promised color version. Personally I prefer the BW ones but perhaps it's just that I don't know how to process the color ones. The sun didn't give the warm golden tones on the peaks as I have seen from other images. I waited for another 2 hours anticipating that the color temperature would shift, but the sun never came out until about about 8am when I was back in the parking lot. B&W somehow gives me more room to work with.

Pre-dawn
Dawn

I also did some quick modifications to the BW based on the feedback. Again I really appreciate all the comments! :toast:

Color, color, a thousand times COLOR! Those b&w versions are very nice, but the color ones are even better, especially the alpenglow one.

Ooooops, I didn't scroll down far enough the first time I looked at these...boy this is a tough call. Usually I like color but you did a nice conversion. Of the color images, I like the 2nd one best.

I generally prefer color, however, for this image I'm still leaning toward your Pre-dawn B&W.

Your pre-dawn BW has a great classic feel that sways my preference toward it.

The B&W is gorgeous. Nice job.

Pre-dawn is best in b&w
Dawn is best in color

You get the best of both worlds this way and I would be proud to have either image.

Exactly what Joshua said!
That's one of the finest b&w images I've seen in some time.
The second works much, much better in color. What a great morning you had. I too would be extremely pleased to have these in my portfolio.

Ditto what Joshua and John said.

Ditto also Joshua's choice, and if I had to pick one it would be the pre-dawn B&W that I would print.

I think it was a good call going B&W. And I agree with the pre-dawn image being the better of the two. Well done.

Beautiful B&W conversions - love 'em both!

Thanks for the re-post of these great shots. Ditto what Josh said. Personally, I like the pre-dawn B&W best, followed by the dawn color shot.

My preference of the four goes to the very nice pre-dawn B&W.

Outstanding BW conversion - I don't think you need to choose - they're all excellent.

B&W on the first..color on the second :toast:

Pre-dawn: BW
Dawn: Color

Both are beautiful b-w conversions.

I'm with the Joshua and some of the others - I love the pre-dawn B&W, color not so much, but I think the dawn shot works better in color - spectacular alpenglow and an almost black-and-white feeling to the lake where it isn't lit by the reflection.

Wow, that dawn shot is amazing! I'm usually a B&W guy, but I prefer the color.

Fantastic images all around!

The B&W is great, but for me the color just jumps of the page. Color one is just amazing. Well done.

Black and White on both!

Maybe im losing my mind (or my monitor)--but they still look seriously oversharpened to me.
Course, i still like the dawn B&W too, so what do i know...
Posted by Tien-Chien Chen on June 12, 2010 at 2:38 PM
No Stan you are not losing your mind! I agree that I oversharpen these images, will correct when I print them. Oh if you are losing your monitor, send it to me!

I normally choose color over BW, but for both of these the BWs are exquisite!
Posted by Morris McClung on June 13, 2010 at 3:19 PM
I don't think you have to choose either. Both work equally well on different levels for me. All are superb shots!
