Three's Company
And four is a crowd of Common Blues... that I found, when Phil and I went to our local patch to capture these beauties roosting on Saturday evening. We had a field day as there were so many of them, and it was a job to know which ones to choose to photograph! That said, these guys caught my eye.

It is a shame that one is not a perfect specimen, but I was thrilled to find so many on one small grass stem.

40D, 300mm + 1.4 t/c and tubes, f7, ISO 500,1/80 small crop off the top.

Great comp and detail and spot on background. Well done on finding four together too!

that's a very impressive shot Fran. I've never seen Common Blues in such concentrations. A minor nit would be that the wing tips of the right hand pair of butterflies look a bit soft so stopping down a bit more might have helped here, but otherwise an excellent shot.

A stunning composition and despite comments regarding the slight loss of focus on some parts of individual butterflies the overall amount of detail is great. I'm quite envious of the quality of images showing a single insect but to have four in one shot and still get a great composition and a delightfully smooth background is brilliant. I'd be over the moon with this Fran.
