One Year & Six Days
One year and six days....that is how long it has been since I last cheered at a sunrise. This morning was one of the most magnificent sunrises I've seen. I wasn't sure whether it would even be worth heading up to Bierstadt Lake, but I'm so glad I did.

Well, that's just sort of OK.......

Wow Erik! Spectacular morning for sure! More please!!!

Incredible colors, what a shot! It figures though for those of us that work in the regular week. Cloudy and crappy all weekend and Monday morning is spectacular.

Wow - too good ..

Spectacular! Looks like you were channeling Marc Adamus with those awesome, streaking clouds, and that's high praise, IMO.

Awesome image, perfectly presented.

Does that mean that everything comes together every year and six days? If we happen to miss that day, is it 2 years and 12 days and so on? :toast:

Woo hoo!! You bet, that's worth cheering. Awesome!!

I officially "hate" you Mr. Stensland. I was up at 3 AM today, planning on heading up to RMNP, only to find more rain and wind, so I went back to bed convinced that there was no way there would be a good sunrise. Good thing I'm not a weatherman. This is really gorgeous, Erik! Great job!

Yes! A very nice sky and reflection in the lake. Your use of a wide angle, while tilting the trees on the edge a bit, sure helps bring out the leading lines in the clouds.

Hopefully it will not take another year + to get these sunrise conditions again.

What a tremendous sunrise. Certainly reason to celebrate. The reflection in the lake looks a tad bright to me.

Way to go Erik! This is fantastic! I know the feeling you described and hope to experience it again soon. :toast:

Wow, that is one amazing sunrise. Can you let me know when the next one will be.
Posted by Erik Stensland on June 14, 2010 at 4:59 PM
Thanks everyone! It really was an amazing morning and I have a number of shots I captured during the show. I've not had a chance to really process any of them as today is the first day with my summer staff guy so I'm in training mode. I'll work on this image and perhaps post a couple of others if I get a chance but it might be a couple of days before I can post them as I'm off to the mountains again tomorrow.

This would be nice to see LARGE with those colors. Must have been a great morning light show to witness. :toast:

Nice work Erik! I thought I saw you driving on the Bear Lake Road this morning.
The wide angle view of Bierstadt accurately captures the insane color along the divide. It was spectacular to say the least. Looking forward to seeing your other images too.

That's beautiful, Erik! I too like the wide angle effect. This is a great combination of warm and cool tones. Glad you made the effort to get up there!

I think I'd be whooping it up too -- I love mornings like that! Awesome shot Erik :toast:

WOW! That's one we're all wishing we got to see. Thanks for sharing and congrats!

Well, I'm glad you went up there, too! That way we could join in your celebration.
Aside from a bit of perspective correction for the distortion on the edges, this is ready to go!

On a scale of one to ten, I give it a 2.

two hundred, that is! Spectacular! :toast: :toast:

Hmmm...that's some coincidence...it's been 1 year 6 days since I got up for a sunrise!

That is one spectacular sky! I agree with John about the image distortion. Not sure how easy it would be too correct, though. If you have any with the waterline more towards the center of the image, the distortion should be much less noticeable.

Way to be there and to be ready for such a spectacular presentation by Mother Nature!
