Whitethroat singing

Common Whitethroat (Sylvia communis) - male

Canon 1Ds Mk3, 600/f4 + 12mm extension tube + EF1.4x extender, WH2 + Gitzo 3530LSV, + off camera flash.
Manual exposure mode f11, 1/250, iso 160.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS4, full frame.

I was pleased to get this shot without any hemlock stems crossing behind or in front of the subject (which is usually the case), and also to get a hit of pink in the chest feathers, but I don’t like the perch seeming to end in mid-air. I’ve never heard of these coming to feeders before, but I have several coming each day.

Superb sharpness and clarity-Not the best of perches but certainly the clearest of white throat images

Hi Phil,

Ive been sitting and waiting for these little blighters, to sit on a clear perch, and they just dont seem to do it, so I really do take my hat off to you, another excellent image.

Regards

Rob

very nice and clear, good detail, slight run out of DOF, spoils a corker.

You can't ask for much more than that from a whitethroat shot and I can't see anything I don't like that you haven't mentioned yourself. Spot on.

A cracker Phil,

The background is great as well. I would suggest you darken the end of the perch just to take the harshness away.

I have noticed my locals are a little more obliging than usual. They don't seem as concerned with my presence as usual. Still no pictures though!

Cheers

Wow, to get that close, super colours, I also want the bird to be a little more left in the frame.

Beautiful shot :toast: Great to see someone employing an extension tube and fieldcraft to get a frame filling shot instead of cropping (which has become the norm). Hats off to you.

Wow, nice and sharp. I think a touch more to the left would be better but this is a cracker of a shot. :toast:
