Fighting Wasps
Hi
Last year I was watching wasps feeding on differant food plants and I noticed when two would come together they would grab each other and fall of the plant fighting. So I set out to photograph them grapling in mid air as they fell to the ground, and this is one from the series of pictures that I took.

A really interesting image Dale. Nice to see technology being used to provide an insight into a natural behaviour that would otherwise be hard to see clearly.

Cheers,
Chris

Looks good to me.
Didn't like the space at the bottom at first but I I can see now it gives the feeling of the wasps falling into that space.

A very interesting image Dale and certainly well executed. That lower space is vital to my mind.

I love the studio shots Dale. Very inspiring. Brilliant image and well studied. What sort of exposure and aperture were you using Dale? :toast: :toast:

great shot showing some of the behaviour, like how they look like they have been on the flower and started bickering

A very good capture Dale, but the comp doesn't work for me. Although I understand that you'd have to give the necessary space for this to take place. A truly superb behavioural shot in all accounts.

Up to your usual high standard and it is quite amazing that their bodies stay together with such little amount in the middle as with the wasp on the LHS..!

I think this is great, composition is excellent, love the flying space below and the action is perfectly captured. Just shows you the rewards to be had from 'ordinary' subjects.

That's brilliant Dale and I really like the comp myself. I love the long drop and the flowers that they fell from. Tremendous photography.
Even more amazing than the fact that their bums don't fall off to me, is that they obviously have muscles passing through that narrow waist that must be unbelievably strong to be so small and yet manipulate such a large abdomen.
love it. :toast: :toast: eric

Works a treat Dale. The inclusion of the space at the bottom is really important for me. Its a great tangle and lovely split second of a great sequence.
