Was out and about today trying to capture the abundant poppies that are now out in bloom. I often find it difficult to capture the essence of the whole field so stuck to trying to isolate one or two as in the example.. Boy, was it windy!!
Whilst I like this type of shot, and this one, your mention of a lot of wind would have had me using a tripod, polarizer, low ISO, f32 and whatever else to get the longest exposure I could on this sunny day to show the swirl of colour as the poppies succumbed to the breeze. Just a thought!
I did try that and found a polarizer just wasn't enough to stop from blowing the hi-lights in some areas. I did quite a lot of 'vertical panning' type shots and some very soft focusing on a few secluded plants, which I quite liked the results. I'm waiting delivery of some Lee Filters and then I can experiment a whole lot more, that and wait for calmer, less contrasty days..!
Thanks guys & girls, all very welcome comments

Oh yes that works for me too, John suggestion is an interesting approach.
You don't want to listen to John McP he's a troublemaker. One minute you're happily recording reality and the next he tempts you off the true path and you end up getting all arty.
I'd have taken the same shot as you - and then because I have made the mistake of listening to him, tried to get the other as well and failed again.
I think that's a cracker Brett. eric
This is a good shot, although Im picking up a whiteish oof flower in the foreground left middle and a couple of blueish oof flowers in the background. If these weren't here it would be a much better image IMO.
Hi Brett,
Great shot. Only one little nit that's the white, almost transparent, little spot just right of the flower. It's getting to much attention i.m.o.
