Elk cow and calf Moraine Park RMNP
Went up to RMNP Friday AM for sunrise. Clear blue skies pale first light. Drove down to Moraine and spotted a cow elk feeding in the wild flowers. Clicked a few images when a coyote appeared on the rocks above the meadow. A couple of other cows who where about a 100 yards away spotted the coyote and joined the other cow in chasing him away. When they returned they went over to a pile of limbs and coaxed out a calf. They then took off as the coyote was still in the area. Most of the shots were out of reach for my 200 as I left my 500 in the car  But I did capture several images as they got closer in. Great experience as always watching nature take its course.

Oh sure, Don, you couldn't just shoot a mama and baby elk, you had to go and do it with them in a field of flowers. Well done, sir!

Lovely scene! Great description of a scene you were blessed to witness.
Just has everything...an elk family, flowers, and a beautiful meadow.

Very pretty animalscape you created Don. Nice option when the reach is beyond what you have.
