Red squirrel revisited
After a short soggy sojourn back on squidgers .An everso early start got 3 in the motor and back up north .The rock pool I decided on hadn't got any more comfortable in the last two weeks but at least I had packed the deet this time.
Andy A and Andy S where on the skin so soft but didn't stop Andy A looking any less like a Polish hit man with his new hair cut....LOL
Thanks guys a great time out again .Oh and if you are in a round get Andy A to get the drinks in . 'I'll get these in' he says as the barman says these are on the house lads....I ask you....

getting closer .....

Techs
D3 500mm F4
At F4 , 1/60th ,iso 1000. -0.7ev ( peanut shells on rock cloned out )
All c/c's welcome
Thanking you in advance

Hi Mark, the clarity on this one is far better and the detail in the reflection works well. Noise is beginning to creep in at the bottom where it has be lightened? A tight vertical 'pano' could work too.

If only the contents of your wallet could be so lucky

This has got to be one of the most difficult locations to shoot in that I've ever come across - constant need for high iso for such paltry shutter speeds coupled with a need for highlight control and the incessant green cast from the tree canopy if the sun is out.

All that coupled with the fact that you have to work in a boulder "staircase" with the sound of a babbling brook not quite drowning out the crap sales pitch of "Pizza Boy"; plus lanky heating engineers falling in the water and soaking ya trousers - mmm, like I said, awkward location.

Agree with Stephanies' comments but it's getting there matey :toast:

You will have grain in an image at ISO 1000 and i had to look 3 times to try and see it and still struggled, The Squirrel is a bit scruffy-maybe leave a brush there for it first, It will be a great winter location with more light through lack of tree folage, some snow on the rocks and tufts on the ears-ah i can see it now-lovely

Gotta say mate, struggling to see the noise on my screen but then that's not saying much. Sooooo much better than anything I got but..............well at least I sorted the Pizza  Another great day and well worth the early start, you will nail this shot eventually and as Dave mentioned, the site will get better as the winter approaches, Im off to get some wellies

HI Mark :wavey:

as the big A says its getting there :toast:

Always a struggle shooting at high ISO and low shutter speed. Maybe winter when the trees are bare will give you more light, and frozen fingers

Hi Mark, Cracking shot very different from the normal red squirrel shots we see. I cannot say i have ever seen one like this before.
the reflection adds that essential third element to make the picture stand out.
Were they salted peanuts to make him thursty :-)

Certainly very different from the norm and would be a cracker with a less tatty looking squirrel.Would flash improve over the high iso?
But then again winter would improve on the squirrel, possibly the light(unless it's all conifers) and the deet problem.

First image I think I have seen of a squirrel drinking. Nice to get something different from the norm. The reflection is beautiful (JR will love it)  Nits covered a lovely image.

Glad you had half decent company

Hi Mark, your project is a great example of how excellent images are generated. They very rarely happen on a first visit and your persistence and continuous improvement is evident for us to see.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Cheers

Austin
