PROXY FALLS---is it really June 20th?
Folks,

I ran into David Cobb a few nights ago and he told me he was heading over to Proxy Falls. This images was shot about a week ago... (not great light) and LOTS OF WATER.... almost too much... I'd hold off a bit until the water is flowing somewhat less. Keeping spray off the lens was a real pain.. and being down in the gorge getting this image was somwhat an unpleasant experience, between the rain one minute, sun another and water everywhere.
However having said that... is there ever a really bad time at Proxy? Maybe not.

Fantastic. It's on my to do list for sure when I get a chance to explore Washington and Oregon sometime.

I made my first trip ever to Proxy Saturday. Yes, the water was very high, and the flowers still weren't in bloom. While I was trying to find a path down to the base of the falls that wouldn't be life-threatening for this non-agile 53-year-old  , a couple of kids with a very expensive Nikon came back up and told me not to bother, there was far too much spray to get a decent shot down there. Also, the 15-foot-diameter pool of Upper Proxy was about 35-40 feet, leaving no good tripod positions except right in the middle of the pool (and, no, I didn't bring my waders on this hike). The funny thing is, I'd been so worried that I wouldn't get an overcast weekend day in June to go down there, since I'd always read that June was the time to visit...

P.S.: Although the general advice for hiking the Proxy Falls trail seems to be to do it in a clockwise loop, that proved impossible on Saturday, as a "house-sized log" apparently was down across the trail on the Upper Proxy side -- basically, you have to hike in going counterclockwise, and come back the same way once you've taken in the falls.

Jack, very cool, mysterious image. Looking forward to getting there later in the year.

I really like this one Jack. The areas of shade and sunlight work very well together here and those foreground greens are awesome.

Dang Jack, that is a lot of water! I just might take your suggestion and wait until fall.

How does one get to Proxy Falls? I thought 242 is still closed.

At this point, 242 is closed a couple of miles east of the Proxy Falls trailhead., so you can reach it from the western approach.
