Not what I was after but as the opportunity presented itself. I realise this lacks a little DOF but I particularly liked the colours and detail in the leg hairs and wing so thought I'd share it anyway. C&Cs welcome. Thanks for looking.

DOF or the lack of it isn't a problem as long as the right things are sharp-in this case it should be the eyes, Unfortunately they are OOF so the image doesn't work for that reason alone,Its a shame as everything thing else ticks all the right boxes, Why did you not up the ISO to 400 and increase the aperture?

Point well made, Dave, thanks. Next time I'll be better prepared.

Hi Cliff,

I agree with Dave that it does indeed tick all the right boxes but let down by the eyes not being in focus.

The D300 will go very nicely up to ISO 800 with very little noise if you nail the exposure.

Ian, very true - it did not occur to me at the time. Having now looked at your portfolio version I can see what a difference it would have made

Nits covered . If the head had been in focus it would have been a corker !

It's all been said - nice legs, shame about the boat race.

Thanks for your comments and advice. I went back to the same spot yesterday and guess what - the wardens had cut back the tall grasses in front of the hide. I did catch this little chap nearby and think I did a slightly better job second time around although still room for improvement.
