Looking at heading up to LLV for the week of July 04. Curious to know road and trail conditions? I have been looking around on the web for the past few days and can only find the road to Mosquito Flat is open but nothing about snow coverage?

Also, wanted to know if I might need snow shoes if highing at high elevations now with all the snow around still..

Thanks...

I'd suspect there's some mucky trail conditions right now so bring goretex boots! If I go up there or hear anything I'll pass it along. You might want to check out the rockcreeklake.com forums and post this there. Bring a lot of 100% DEET! Have fun.

Well, thanks for the info.. gave them a call yesterday at the Bishop office and Mammoth as well.

Mosquito Flat road is open to the campground and as of yesterday you could get to Long Lake. After that it was pretty snow covered based on reports. But that can change daily due to weather conditions...

Excerpts from an e-mail I received from the BLM Botanist this morning: " haven't had a chance to drive the roads up along Rock Creek or Mcgee Creek yet this year but I would assume things are blooming now. But higher up there is still a fair amount of snow, I was hoping to get into the backcountry over 4th of July weekend so that should give me a better idea of the snow is like and when things might be blooming...As I start to get up to those elevations more I can keep you updated, but overall mid to late July sounds right for the upper elevation stuff. If your looking for wildflowers a little east of the crest there is a lot to see at the 7,500 to 9,000 foot level right now. " As I receive more information I am updating the post on my blog about Sierra Nevada Wildflower Bloom: http://sandysteinman.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/sierra-nevada-wildflower-report-expect-a-late-season/
