Vanishing Waves
I finally got to visit the oceanfront in my own town for a change yesterday. Just another boring day in So. CA, but a few elements came together for a pleasing image. Canon 1DsIII, Zeiss ZE21. 5 second exposure.

Jeffrey,

This image has really captured my attention. The sky is a bit boring but I love the colors on the rocks and the ephemiral nature of the water. This landscape has a surreal quality that reminds me of Dali.

One of my long term goals is to create photo montages of surreal landscapes, blended with human forms. This is a great inspiration for that! I can easily imagine posing a nude in the disappearing waves. Thank you for posting this. :toast:

I like your choice of shutter speed, Jeffrey, and the lighting is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing.

I love this Jeffrey. Other than a slight bubble on the horizon from that pesky glass, this has a wonderful balance between the surf and sky. The color, sat, exposure all look great to me. No nits from me!

Not a shabby place that Santa Barbara... :-)

Thanks, everyone.

Lon, I wonder how much horizon curvature is from the lens and how much is from the earth's radius. The distance seen here is a minimum of 25 miles.

You've captured the foreground rocks in a very 3D sort of way. I think it's a mixture of subdued light, wet rocks, and the movement of the water. The polarized sky draws perhaps too much attention to the cloud. I wouldn't mind seeing the blues toned down a bit. Sure makes me want to get out and shoot some coastal scenes, but the fog hangs along the cost all day and snuffs out the sun.
