700mm f7.1 1/1250 iso500 A smidge off full frame (had to rotate slightly)
Hi all
This for all those who thought my last hare shot was too large in the frame
This was the friendliest hare ever - he even offered to take me out for a drink!
Interested in peoples views on the composition on this one, and how others would have framed it at time of shooting.
Hi Simon
Everything is "wrong" with this, too big in frame, ears chopped off and nose not quite sharp.
But I love it, somehow it just works for me, apart from the nose thing. Shame it wasn't at f8 as I think that would have made a great shot truly wonderful.
Bob
P.S. Is that a tick by the left eye?

Not sure, bit of gunk I think.

Is this what they call "In yer face " stuff?
I like it anyway even though as you say it breaks so called "rules"
Superb detail.

I think this is an excellent shot, I am in favour of close up portraits and the colours and the way the body of hare is gently out of focus, makes this really work. Do agree though with the comment re sharpness on the nose, but minor really. Re composition and framing, I think this is spot on, slightly off centered and my eyes are drawn to the face. Great stuff.

Love it Simon. If this was a portrait of a human being, nobody would even mention the ears being cut off. The point of the image is the eyes and they are nice and sharp - looks great to me. A good idea setting up next to the gate its a natural focus point for them as they move from field to filed and they use them a lot. Why else would poachers have nets especially for working gates? Good fieldcraft makes all the difference. I'd like to see some closer shots still but I guess you are running out of min focus distance. Can you stick a x2 on as well? At this range I bet the results would still be extremely sharp. eric

Eric has hit the nail on the head - the eyes are the point of the image and the rest is just suporting it. Always room for something different, great image Simon.

Thanks for all the positive comments - I was unsure on how this one would go down, so pleased that it's gone down well.
I don't own a 2x Eric so not an option I'm afraid, although I've got an extension tube so I could get closer. Probably be pushing my luck though!
