I often find it difficult to photograph this species since they prefer to be beside streams and rivers and are often out of reach for macro work. However and early'ish start offered some good opportunities with this male and I hope to try some more later this week.

Kind regards,

Brett

an excellent image Brett. You're certainly right about needing an early start for this species

Excellent !
That's why I'm finding the 500 so useful on stuff like this.

Excellent shot Brett, perfect colours and simple composition, however I can't help thinking there is a little too much space at the bottom, that if it was slightly lower and marginally to the left in the frame, may improve the composition a little more.

Look forward to seeing more.

A really cracking shot! :toast: Speaking as someone who is new to damselfly photography how do I distinguish between a "banded" and a "beautiful" demoiselle?
Posted by Brett Lewis on June 29, 2010 at 2:29 AM
Hi Cliff,

In answer to your question, the Banded Demoiselle is so called because of that black banding across its wings, whereas the Beautiful Demoiselle's wings are dark all over. The females of the Beautiful have Dark brown wings wheres as the Banded females have pale green wings.. Hope that helps..?
