Hello everyone. My first South Africa trip is on the horizon, and I'm hoping to get some pointers from open top vehicle vets on the best setup for a big lens while on photo safari.
I've previously spent time in Tanzania, but that was in a "pop top" vehicle, which allowed me to stand and rest my lens on a beanbag on the roof. This time I'll be spending a week self-driving in Kruger (in what will presumably be a small vehicle, again using a beanbag out the window), followed by a week split between Mala Mala and Sabi Sands.
My concern is about the MM/SS part of the trip, which will presumably be spent in completely open jeeps/4x4 vehicles. With no roof or windows to rest a beanbag on, I'm wondering how best to set up my 500. I'm assuming I could just use my tripod/Wimberley combo as a monopod, but if any vets have other suggestions, I'm all ears.
Btw, I'm open to tips for self-driving in Kruger as well. I've been looking forward to the MM/SS portion of the trip so much I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing in Kruger yet, aside from following my friends around.
