For those of you who follow my blog - it's got a new home. You can now find it at http://blog.bretedge.com. I'll leave the old blog up for a while although I won't post anything new to it going forward. All new content will be at the URL listed above.

While you're killing time on the 'net, feel free to check out my spankin' new website at http://www.bretedge.com. Love to hear your thoughts and comments on the new design. It's a Flash site and I know there are Flash haters out there. If you're one of 'em, that's cool - but don't bother visiting and please don't rant about your distaste for the technology. FWIW, there is an HTML only version and a mobile version that automatically loads when someone on a mobile device accesses the site.

Thanks, and have a great week!

Hello Bret, Having just responded to another poster about the frustrations of trying to get your work out there when no one visits one's website or blogs, I thought the least I could do was answer your invitation to visit your new blog. I'm glad I did; I enjoyed the photo of the bison and your description of how it was made; the way you've captured the three layers: bison, trees, mountains, as well as the artistic effects. Overprocessed images don't do much for me; "overprocessed" = images that primarily draw attention to the processing techniques rather than to the subject matter. IMHO heavily saturated "eye candy" images are the worst. Well, I like your photography and am glad to be able to follow your writing on your blog.

Bret,

Excellent job on both accounts, your updated site and new blog. I wouldn't call myself a "flash hater," but I'm often critical of poorly or over-designed sites. Honestly, yours is well done, intuitive and simple. But professional too. Most of the time flash-based sites have too many gimmicks and/or navigational and informational overload. Yours does not, so kudos for that.

The most important thing of course is showcasing your work, and your site does that. Your work deserves that. Best of luck with it!

Hey Lon:

I agree that too many Flash sites go way overboard w/ animations, music and other crap. That's not for me. My direction to the designer was basically "keep it simple, easy to navigate and let the images do all the hard work". I think they hit the nail on the head.

Thanks so much for your feedback as it means a lot coming from you as I do have a huge amount of respect for you. Really appreciate your thoughts on this!

Hi Bret,

The new site is looking good. The layout is simple and I didn't encounter any problems while navigating through the different pages. The images, I have to say, are awesome. It has been a while since I browsed through your portfolios, and I see a lot of new work there which I like.

I'll check out your blog from time to time.

Regards.
