Isabelle - Sunset
So many photos ill have to break this up into two parts...
This is from Sunday afternoon/eve, i made my first trip up to Lake Isabelle. Had hoped to get up to the glacier but the snowfields were pretty steep and icy and i didnt have my axe with me so i made do with the lakes. It looked like it was going to cloud up/rain for sunset, but as often happens this time of year, the clouds broke at sunset for some great light, and since i was half-way between Isabelle and Longs, i had to make a mad dash to the outlet for this shot, the color was gone 30 seconds later!
BTW--i didnt see them, but theres apparently a moose and two calves hanging round red rock lake.

2) Definitely a B&W kind of afternoon!

3) some great wildflowers all along the trail!

4) serious snow left at and above the lake!

Stan:

I think these are some of the best images I've ever seen from you, and that includes your spectacular work from the sand dunes. Just outstanding. :toast:

I love the ripples in the lake that add beautiful texture! Can't wait to see the sunrise shot!

Ditto, Outstanding job. Unlike Bret, I think you have done better, but hard to say when. #s 1 is my preferred shot with 2 and 3 right behind. What I like in 1 is the warm light against the peaks and trees. Good choice of shutter speed to give a strong feeling of movement in the spring melt runoff. Nice composition the way the curve in the river complements the diagonal of the ridge line in front of the high peaks. :toast:

An excellent series! Looks like you had a fine trip.
The one you posted at ES&S is really beautiful!

One of my very favorite places, Stan! I have a few comps from the same place as the first one. The reds in the sky in that one look like they are over the edge in saturation, but your comp and the light are superb. In fact, the whole set is fairly unbelivably good! My friend and I have a trip there planned in 3 weeks when hopefully the snow has all melted. Maybe not from the looks of your shots. He and I tried to get the afternoon storms last August, but did not get them the day we went. We were trying to get a Bierstadt effect, which you did in #3. You just killed it on this trip!

Looks like a great day! Not to be politically correct but I like them all. The River bend foreground in the first is sweet!

One of your best collections Stan. Well done.

Spectacular! For being essentially the same scene, you've captured a whole lot of diversity, which you always seem to do so well. Love the clouds in that first one.

Really like the way the river is reflecting the color of the clouds in the first image. Very nice!

What a difference just a few hours makes. I was there at sunrise on Sunday and would have killed for just a few of these clouds. I also found myself stuck on the snowbank for a few minutes at the top edge of the lake before deciding to turn back. #1 is my favorite of these, the color and the comp are just gorgeous. I also like the one on ESS.

Nice set Stan. I actually think that the B&W shot would make a better color shot with those silvery grays and blues and inky blacks. Blue conveys depth and in this shot it would not hurt the image.

Nice set throughout.

These are all great Stan. The third one is my favorite but It seems to be tilting a bit to the right. Looks like a very successful trip!

Excellent series Stan! I really like the colors in #1, but the drama in the B&W is close behind for my favorites.

The shots lately on the forum have been unbelievable and yours are the reason why. Yes another excellent series, Stan!

Great series, Stan. #1 is my favorite, but I really like the impact #4 has. That snowbank is fascinating.

That's a wonderful glow you have in #1. Great lead-in too.

What great color in the first shot! I still think you dunes work is the best but these are close.
