Thats a beauty Lea, love the tongue. Maybe just a touch more room around the butterfly might help compositionally but only a very minor nit.

In my opinion, the 300F4 is the perfect lense for macro work, especially on such flighty subjects as butterflies, stick with it if you ask me.

Considering you were so 'supposedly' ill equipped you've done a marvellous job.I love that tongue too.
Does anyone know why horseflies were invented?

A very nice shot Lea, good colours, nice sharp detail on the tongue and good dof, agree with the comment on the composition, otherwise works for me, interested to see the lens you are using, been thinking about one of these myself.

Love this Lea, nits covered above and I agree re. 300/f4 I use Nikon version and that is really sharp and gives a good working distance in the daytime, well done :toast: :toast:

I'm in favour of any macro shot that doesn't use a macro lens!
A fab image :toast:

I also agree with the comments on the composition, but other than that a lovely and very detailed image. The tongue is a very nice bonus.

nicely taken Lea, you improvised well. It's always nice to get the 'tongue' in that position so you timed that well.
