Apart from the obvious difference ie Multi award winning photographer Danny vs amateur tog Austin, I wanted to post this image to show what a huge difference light makes in any picture.

Danny took his recently posted Long Tailed duck image in the last hour of quality light in Iceland. I took this image at about the same time as Danny but in Norway. It was taken at a similar angle with an identical camera and lens combination but with totally different light conditions.

I am not really looking for critique, I am posting this to demonstrate the impact of light and how it dramatically affects the end result of any photograph.

Cheers

Austin

yes, the light is very different, I'm sure Danny must put the hours in to get so many shots in such great light. This is still a nice image and one which demonstrates the harsh winter conditions nicely. I think I'd be tempted to lose the white stripe at the top of the image.

I would echo Matt's comment to the letter!

Funny as this subject was going through my mind last night and will be on my blog tomorrow, Quality of light makes the image rather than the subject, Crop the top white part of the frame off and you get a totally different feel to the image, but it doesnt have the softness to the light that Danny managed-right place right time and all that

Hello Austin

Its great that you have put this up for comparison and really shows what you can achieve in adverse weather conditions. I like shooting in both good and bad weather it doesn't matter to me. I never photograph in midday sun or dull grey weather because in my opinion you just can't get the image right but on the other hand I have alot more time for photography and if you have a full-time job you can only get what you get. Its funny because I have just had this conversation with Tom Wylie and we were discussing this. I really like this image Austin it has that winter feel to it and I bet you were cold when you took it

Great shot and shows the conditions great. I really like that you can see the drizzle coming down. Cold conditions indeed. I agree with the above that the removal of the white top area would be an advantage and a slight CW rotation wouldnt go a miss! TFS :toast: :toast:

I'd tend to agree about the top ,losing it adds a new dimension to it . Fine detail for such adverse conditions.

Hi Austin

nice to see the contrast between the two shots, still a very nice shot. :toast:

A bit of CW rotation might serve to relieve the poor creature of the endless uphill swim
