I was out scouting for a client's portrait session and came across these Sandhill Cranes rustling up lunch in a neighborhood garden.

C&C welcome & appreciated.

Pentax K20D, DA*50-135 lens @ 135, f/5.6, 1/500", ISO 200; and, significantly cropped...

Enjoy,

Tim!

Nice shot Tim.
Who is their little friend in the foreground?

Tim - In the neighborhood garden?? I wish I could be so lucky. Looks like you had some pretty harsh light to deal with, but I'm glad you got the shot. Did they stick around or fly off when the one on the right( who seems to be staring right) at you, noticed you?

Hi all,

I was driving through a suburban neighborhood near my home, and these two were in the communal neighborhood garden. I drove by them and then turned around and came back. They were probably a hundred feet from my car. I got out and the more alert one got a bit concerned; fortunately, there was a low (4') garden shed in the garden, so I crept up behind it and then popped up for a few shots. As I was shooting, a woman rode by on her bike, less than a hundred feet from them. So, yes, I was quite surprised how stoic they were; but, by the same token, they had limited space for taking off, so they were between the proverbial rock and a hard spot for a few moments...

Wonderful catch Tim. Hope to get a shot of some in the future, they are not around our area but they may decide to wander through sometime. I will have to keep my eye on the garden. Wish you had better light.

If I ever see Sandhill Cranes in a garden near my abode I'm sure I'll die of shock before I'm able to snap off any shots. Nice catch.

Great catch. The return of the Sandhill Crane is a great success story.
