Demoiselle with a difference
Hi all, don't know what I think of this one, took it a few days ago and have been looking at it ever since, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't, what do people think?

Techs D300, 105mm macro f7.1, 1/40, tripod MLU - levels tweaked in lightroom and sharpened in PS, full frame

Allcritique welcome :wavey:

Hi Shaun
Is the effect created or was it purposely taken like this.?
Its certainly different, and pin sharp, but, like you,- I can't make my mind up

No John it was purposely taken like this, the only lightroom work is a boosting to levels and a slight desaturation then sharpened in PS, it was shot against a misty lake lit by very warm early morning sunshine. :wavey:

Hello Shaun.

Well it works for me love the effect you have created here, and I think the background is just right for this image.

I've been studying this for the last 5 mins or so and the more I look at it the more I like it. The Damsel is beautifully sharp and the lighting actually works very well, I think. I also think the perch suits the scene. :toast:

It's different and can't make up my mind. I like it but miss the beautiful color on the wings. The overall colors match perfectly.

It's a kind a mystery picture. Don't know if I like it or not.
I think it's a great picture after looking more and more.

I really like this. That strip of blue enhancing the insect, not just a silhouette and the dark area at the top holding the image down.
My only nit would be that I would like to see some separation between the leaf the insect is on and the leaf below (like on the opposite side of the stem).

Definately got a lot going for it Shaun, very sharp, not just a silhouette and the composition is very good, just not quite sure about the bg colour, otherwise works very well.

It works very well for me Shaun. Whether the effect is in camera or a 'processed job', it's different and all the better for it.
