I'm just back from a brief trip to California with only a few hours to birdwatch. Ironically, the best shot of the trip is of a bird that I have a hard time identifying... Here's a female hummingbird (immature male??), most likely Costa or Black-chinned. The picture was taken in the San Diego area, just about a mile north of the Cabrillo Monument on Point Loma. I have a few other shot of that individual (mostly of its back with the head turned) if you think it may help.
I'm pretty sure there's a hummingbird fan somewhere in the South West that can help me on this one!
