Well, it's that time again. Quarterly UKNP housekeeping: July 2010

First and foremost, again, many many thanks to the vast majority of you for the way in which you participate on UKNP. Our 'moderator' intervention still is minimal on a day to day basis, interspersed with atypical hiccups when people forget the rules.

And again, UKNP still continues to grow at a steady and is by far the biggest dedicated nature photography forum website in the UK and you all are associated with that success story.

To give you an idea of that success Naturephotographers.net (NPN) is ranked in 41,426 place in the world ranking of websites; Google.com being number one.
To put this into perspective NPN is on par with the RSPB which is placed at 41,359 and far exceeds other dedicated nature photography websites like Wild-wonders.org which is at 379,009. Again for comparison, individual pro photographer's websites tend to be around the 5,000,000 mark. UKNP, as the largest regional forum of NPN, takes up a considerable amount of NPN bandwidth and as the cost for this bandwidth comes from the annual membership please consider contributing if you get enjoyment from NPN (UKNP).

Now to some housekeeping;

1) Since Christmas there have been occasions when people have confused their sentiment with the law. The law is generally obdurate to sentiment. Please take care not to present your sentiment, however well meaning, as an absolute and take time to know your law.

2) UKNP is one of the least 'personality combative' forums I know. The Mods attribute this to our rules, the nature of the forum's intent and UKNP's request that you post under your full name. Please, use your full name on screen. We currently accept a few exceptions to this so if you wish to discuss this please PM Nick or Tom.

3) Although minor, a number of people have left the forum in the past months due to external reasons. Please do not let external strife spill out onto the forum; we are not a soap-box for your angst.

4) The 'Gatherings' attendance has dwindled recently. Despite this, we will still schedule at least 4 'UKNP Gatherings' a year so please watch the forum and Facebook for update information close to the date of the event.

5) If you are a member and want your name and details added to the Photographers page, or the information updated, please PM Nick or I with the details before 1st August. Links are one of the ways your profile/webpage moves up search engines.

6) Finally, the 4th UKNP conference. I am struggling to find a reasonable Midland venue. If you know of somewhere that is cheap, has (free) parking for 50 cars, has AV capability, has a local nosh centre, and is available on a winter Saturday (all day) can you PM me please.

We are aware that UKNP has run on the same format for a couple of years and is now 'out-growing' that format. Jim, Nick and I are looking at ways to change the format without breaking the success - watch this space, but don't hold your breath as these things tend to be slightly slow due to our day jobs!

Again, I will finish with a big big thank you to all of you.
