Stormy Sunset (with crop repost)
I shot this on the same day as the Wahclella, Stream Detail, and Portland Waterfront shots. I was heading to crown point to see if the wild sky's would produce anything spectacular, I saw this across the river on the washington side. The clouds and light were moving too fast for me to go find an off ramp and then find a good vantage point so I pulled to the emergency lane, turned on my hazards, grabbed my camera which luckily already had the 70-200L attached, and hopped an embankment. I fired off about 4 frames, 1 minute later this was gone.

Crown point ended up being a bust so I headed to waterfront. This ended up being one of my favorites from that day. If I had more time I would have attached a grad, and used a tripod, but if i had taken the time I would have missed this moment.

I do travel with grads attached sometimes! This dosen't need one though, as the darkness at the base of the peak adds to the ominous susnet atmosphere and the exposure is very much under control. Fantastic shot!

I like this Zack.. My only suggestion, (might not be the right one), would be to crop from the top, removing the dark section of sky completely.. :toast:

Ned, you touched on something that was bothering me as well, here is a version with that top section cropped. I like even better, thanks.

Thank goodness for the sky. I like the second crop. The foreground could use just a little of detail but what can you say.Beggers can't be choosers.

Zack,
The second crop works very well. The low and high clouds surround this hill/mountain beautifully.
