South Ruby
Went to Ruby Beach a week or so ago with my daughter before she had to head back to college for the summer. The weather was less than perfect for landscapes, but found these nice patterns in the driftwood and beach rocks. Also did a black and white version, but I think I like the color one better.

Canon 50D, 24-70mm at 52mm, ISO 100, 1/50 sec at f/11, polarizer, tripod

I like the textures and patterns in this. My only suggestion would be a slight crop from the top to eliminate the centrally located dark area that's at the top of the frame....it will force some of the rocks in that area to run off the frame but since they do so at the bottom I think it still works....
Where is your daughter going to college? We're going through the selection process with our daughter right now .....of course, she wants to go to a private college (Whitman, UPS) which means I'ld better get to selling some more, actually alot more, images.

I like stuff like this, maybe because its the area we live in, Western Wa. where its not so wide open. I think crappy days at the beach equal black and white landscape. Anyway, i like Mark W. suggestion also.

I myself am not overly fond of driftwood images. I have shot and seen many of them and the patterns are usually similar. That said, you did a nice job none the less.

Mark - thanks for the suggestion on the cropping, I'll play with it and see if I like it. If not maybe I'll try to lighten that area. My daughter is going to UC San Diego, she couldn't wait to get away from western Washington (and doesn't like eastern Washington). Her choice has provided us with good opportunities to visit southern California. We drove down several months ago to see her and caught prime wildflower season in California.

Thanks for commenting Erik and Cliff.

Jack, I was thinking maybe coming down your way in the fall. We'll have to see.

Interesting shot with so little color. I like Mark's suggested crop.

Hi Joe, good to see you posting here. I like the swirl of wood around the rocks. Nicely done. I also think the crop would work...

I love Ruby Beach for this kind of stuff! Good work on this close-up composition. The swirls in the wood are so cool and contrast with the shapes of the rocks really well. My late night imagination finds a weird looking Moose face in there.
