An Early Snipe
I've been trying to get some decent Snipe images for ages but they always seem to use the worst perches possible when I turn up. Finally I spotted one on a dry stone wall with a decent background and it let me nice and close without a care. This has a 10% crop for the web from full frame and I've just increased the levels slightly and sharpened.

7D 700mm ISO:160 160 sec @f/5.6

Thanks for looking

Nice rich colour in the plumage Simon juxtapose to the soft gentle diffused colour of the BG. Love the drystone wall, great location for the shot, very natural. :toast: :toast:

Might take a run out on your patch Thursday, as tomorrow looks wet.

Nice one.

Hi Simon,

Lovely shot. Good background exposure dead on and like Steve I love the dry stone wall as the perch. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Terrific stuff.

Good composition, Simon. I like the pose, bg and wall although the stones look a little blue on my monitor. :toast:

You did well to get so close and the resulting image is a testment to your field craft. I think that it would look even better though if you adjusted the colour balance to neutralise the dominance of the blue channel. It's always difficult to gauge peoples Photoshop skills/experience here, so if this doesn't "grok" feel free to send me an email.

Phil, Cliff, thanks for flagging up the hint of blue. I hadn't actually noticed but think may be partly down to the stone reflecting the blue sky that morning. Easily remedied in LR3 though. :wavey:

The only views I have ever had of these is as they explode away in flight and one sighting of a bird in the snow so I envy you getting this out in the open Simon. An excellent image.

That works so very well and the reduction of the blue in the 2nd image works even better. Well executed and processed.
