Hi Guys,

As promised one of the first images taken with my recently purchased 500mm f/4.5

EOS 30, 500mm + 1.4 TC, About 1/180th, f/6.7, tripod, Velvia 100

Comments welcome

Hi Niall

Clearly the lens is nice and sharp but the image does not work well for me for a number of reasons, both the BG and FG detract a little from the image and the colour balance needs correcting. Probably best done in levels, the image is too red so you may find reducing this channel and increasing the green & blue should help!

Hi Niall,

I'm relatively new to this forum (usually on the 'other' one). This has lots of potential. I hope you don't mind, but I've had a play with the colours in levels and done a crop - what do you think?

Hi Niall,

There's a good tutorial on colour correction with levels - here:

Hope that helps, and look forward to seeing the results.

(And many thanks to whomsoever linked the picture in properly).

PS I also cloned out a ? dust speck just off centre left.
