I kind of have a love/hate relationship with choosing the Pick of the Week in the Fauna Gallery. While it's always enjoyable to review the images that have been posted in any given week, and I enjoy being able to acknowledge the outstanding shots, making the final choice always means that a number of excellent images AREN'T selected. And some weeks I really wish I could split the distinction between two or more images (and photographers). This is one such week.
If I had my druthers, here are the two images that would be the Pick of the Week co-winners:
Both of these images are technically excellent, and both have a huge dose of "cute factor". Joshua's shot added the complexity of working with multiple subjects. And Peter's shot required dealing with a moving subject (and catching it in a perfect pose).
Ultimately I chose Peter Conway's Red Fox image as the Pick of the Week. Why? Well, Peter's mix of composition (I just love how Peter split up the frame and worked with the strong diagonal element) and ability to capture a moving animal in a perfect pose while showing a mischievous aspect of its personality all combined to push it just ahead of Joshua's endearing image of those just too cute Mountain Goat Kids.
Congratulations to both of you! I look forward to seeing more images from you in the future!
