Rod Chandler and myself had the opportunity to spend the first 2 weeks of June in the Canadian Rockies. If you like wildlife, early june is the time to go. Some of the lakes still had ice the first week but, we were able to return a week later and capture some good reflections. I will post the wildlife pics now followed by Landscapes if a couple of days. Yeah I know- I need to get a website to make things easier. First photo of Grizzly sow.
#8 Grizzly CUB??? Holy cow, that's a big one! Great shots all around, Bob. Can't WAIT to see your landscape shots.
On #4, I think I'd darken the reflection a little bit. It has a bit of hdr effect going on, and is now competing with those bears. There's also a pretty strong hdr halo around the tree. All you need is the essence of the mountain reflection, you don't need it to compete primarily for attention.
On #6, I'd use a little hdr to bring out detail in the shadowed side of those little guys, but NOT the background.
Your first, second and last individual grizzly shots are so good, I'd be tempted to make #3 disappear. It's not as good and so only dilutes the excellence of the collection.
Great shots Bob! Glad to see some stuff from your trip. Guess that 500mm is treating you pretty well
Like them all, but hte cub shot is my favorite because they are real cute and like the curious look. I agree with Todd about bringing up the shadows a bit. Look forward to seeing your landscape shots next!
Guys- I have to admit that we were so close the morning we photographed the Grizzlies that I stayed in the car and shot out the window. The 500mm was too much lens so most were shot handheld with the 100-400mm. The first time we saw them they were about 1000 yards off but, kept going back for 2 more days til we had them feeding about 7 a.m. We were told by the Canadian Bear people that in July they head for the hills and are rarely seen on the Icefield Parkway. Thanks for the comments.
