Sparrow ID Help Please

I took this photo in a heavy marsh/bog environment. The Sparrow is one I have never seen before and I could not ID it through any of my books. Can someone tell me what type of sparrow this is?

Thanks

Rick

Hi Rick - That's a tough one (especially on my horrible work monitor). I'm not really seeing much color or pattern. Two questions: Do you have any shots where the head/wings are not in the shadows? Where was this taken?

A good rule of thumb is to start with the head - the bill, facial patterns, etc. This could be anything from a juvenile Swamp Sparrow to an Indigo Bunting. Maybe someone else has a sharper eye (and/or a better monitor.).

Rick -

The photo doesn't show many field marks. Where and when was it taken? Can you describe the bird, especially features we cannot see? Wing bars? Head patterns? Song?

The bird was at the Volo Bog just outside Chicago. It was moving quickly right on the surface of the bog and looked unlike anything I had seen before. I wish I had a better photo but this is all I was able to get.

Thanks

I was hoping you could provide a description, if not an additional photo. Wild guess, based on scant evidence: juvenile House Sparrow.

House sparrow was my immediate impression.

It looks like a House Sparrow to me as well but I wouldn't have expected to see one in that habitat.
