Common Darter
Hi all, thought I would post this from yesterday, I am aware of the couple of nits with it, tip of tail, angle of wings - however it was one of only three worthwhile shots all day, not because there was nothing about, quite the opposite, the most I have seen this year but because of that wind (The one the Met office said there would not be yesterday) . Every time I lined something up the wind blew, if a dragonfly/butterfly landed it did so on the bendiest reed possible, if it landed on a good perch it was impossible to get a good angle on it! In the end walked away laughing and went to watch the football.

Hopefully we will lose the wind at the weekend.

Not quite there for me Shaun. I think you have picked up on most of the nits in this image not to mention quite harsh light, so I guess it's try and try again.. Like you, I'm finding the wind quite frustrating too...

Wind, harsh light and low DoF - all enemies of macro work and you had the triumvirate Shaun

You have my sympathies!

Try getting out in overcast conditions, they can be a bit harder to find but they don't 'shine' anywhere near as much.

These guys look great when they are fresh like this male.

Now see, that's where you experts are losing out because despite the nits It would still please me to have captured this !
