Alaska!
So I recently got to go to Alaska for a wedding. I decided to stick around for an extra week to take some pictures. Here are some of my favorites. More can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/dionysis/Alaska#

Sorry about the watermark on the images.... I forgot to remove it when I exported.

#1 Independence Mine. I have never gotten the opportunity to shoot fog like this before. You would be walking along and then all of a sudden bam! buildings would appear. I truly enjoyed it.

#2 More from the Independence Mine - This was shot with a rented 24mm Tilt shift lens which was too much fun.

#11 One of my little buddies that I drag along with me. This was taken about 5 minutes before I dropped my camera down the waterfall. It survived but is going to the Dr. for some repairs. Thank goodness for insurance.

This is a great series Jim. I love the use of that t/s in number 2! :toast: Where do you get your camera insurance?

I use an inland marine (personal articles) policy through State Farm. It costs like $10 per thousand insured per year.

Way cool. Looks like you had a good time. Great collection. So what the story with Max?

Nice collection of images. Looks like you got around a bit. Like the waterfalls and of course who couldn't like a mother Moose.

So I have two of these box toy "action figures". They are from a Japanese cartoon called Yotsuba&! One I named Max (the big one) and the other I named Dexter (the little Amazon one). I first saw images of them from a friend. Soon as I saw the emotion you could create with a little box guy I knew I had to have one. After several months of searching I finally found a small one.. and the next day I found the big one for a fair price. They are really cool. They have a fully articulating head and arms and their legs move as well. I have been dragging them around the country ever since. I really enjoy taking them out to remote places to take pictures of them. I am starting to get a good collection of images.

Awesome photos, Jim! I love the first one and the false hellebore photo. Sorry to hear of the camera mishap but I'm glad you're okay and that you were able to recover it. Hope the repairs aren't too costly!

My favorites would be 7,2,1. But all of these are very well done.

Great portfolio, Jim. Can you tell me what areas you were in? I am going to Alaska in late August and any suggestions would be appreciated. The moose shots are awesome!

Great shots Jim! I love the first Moose shot. :toast:

Must have been a great trip. I n-v u.

The moose portrait is fantastic and love the greens and texture in #8. Portrait shots like #11 with Max are very enjoyable to see. Kind of what I would have done with a flat Stanley when my kids were in elementary school. Tough break with the camera as well, but wise move having the insurance coverage.

Excellent collection Jim! I live the eerie feeling of the first 2 a lot and absolutely love #5 and #10. Sorry to hear about your gear...if you recall, I dropped mine into a lake a couple months ago, so I can feel the pain. Hope they get it back to you quickly. :toast:

What a fantastic and wildly diverse series, Jim! Congrats! Hope the camera's not out of commission for too long.
