Enjoyed another memorable trip into the Indian Peaks area. I hadn't been into this area for a few years but decided to pack to the Irving Hale Pass and set up a tent. In 2003 I hiked up Hiamovi Mountain and Mount Irving Hale and remembered a great view of Apache Peak and the Lone Eagle Cirque. Lots up tundra and high alpine lakes too.

Here's one I got on 4th of July morning I call "Moving in."

"4th of July morning, 2010. In my tent, I woke up at 4:15 to catch a sunrise from Mount Irving Hale. Didn't like the perspective, so I hiked toward Hiamovi Mountains south slopes in the direction of the clouds. Shortly after sunrise I located a remote , small lake nestled underneath Hiamovi's west face. Found the lake in 15 minutes and watched the clouds drip over Ogallala Peaks west face."

Here are the rest from that trip.

As always, comments welcome.

Thanks for looking!

Nice shots Kane. The low hanging clouds make that first shot really great. I also love the waterfalls you captured. I am heading up there this weekend to camp, so hopefully I can get a few shots as good as yours. Cheers!

Hi Jack,

I was actually thinking of heading back up to the IPW in the next month. I have a 9 day trip planned for the San Juans in a week so that trip will have to go on the back burner for now. There was alot of snow in the IPW this season and I'm guessing that the wildflowers at 11,000+ will still be in pretty good shape until 1st week of August. I want to go back to the Gourd Lake area, it's stunning and remote. Its a hual back in there, plus, I'm fairly certain the trail up to the lake might have the most switchbacks of any trail in the IPW. Love to have some company.

Great set Kane. First one is great, but love the comp on that "hidden spring" shot-contrast is a little heavy for my taste-but easy fix if needed. Can't wait to get up in the IPW soon!

Kane, these are beautiful scenes, all of them. However, I placed a grid on "Moving In" and I find it needs to be rotated slightly clockwise. The telltale is the tree and its reflection in the center of the image.

Kane, these are incredible! Love the first one Moving In, but the entire set is nice. I also am very fond of Indian Peaks Skyline and Hidden Spring....I think Indian Peaks is my favorite.

That shot of Apache/Lone Eagle is insane! I love how that perspectives show how huge Apache is compared to the little "bump" of Lone Eagle. Not to mention the amazing light, clouds, and topography.

Moving In and Indian Peaks Skyline are awesome too.

Incredibly sweet series, Kane. Really like the first shot of the clouds and lake, but the stars-Denver light shot was pretty special as well.

Very sweet light! :toast:

Don, as long as Denver is around, there's gonna be that light up there every single night. I bet there's a lot of potential from the west side of the IPW for some spectacular night photography. Just imagine more clouds and better mountain silhouettes. Hmmmmmm/....
