A Change of Pace
I needed some exercize the other day, not much time so i drove a short ways to the Bartlett trail (Greenhorn, Wets) and did a quick 7 miles. Not exactly grand scenics down there, but the wildflowers were awesome so i played with some pseudo macros (i really need a macro lens badly). Could use some help with the IDs (first one who correctly names them all wins an all expense trip to Olney Springs ) I know the columbine and paintbrush (i aint that stoopid)

Wallflower, Columbine, Paintbrush, Stonecrop (Sedum), Penstemon, Lilly. This could certainly be narrowed down further by variety. I really like that last one, Stan.

Thanks, Paul! Yeah, i figured that was a wild lilly, but i was hoping for a specific. But close enough, enjoy your trip to Olney Springs!

Hey Stan....these are great! Here is a link to a Colorado wildflower site to help you:

Looks like a great selection Stan. If not a true macro, what lens/combo were these shot with? If that Lilly had a less distracting BG (either all gray or all green) that would be more pleasing to me, but nice finds nonetheless.

i used my 70-300, Jared.
Thanks for the links, Jack!

Nice work for having no macro Stan! I like the first and last one best. the last one would have been even better with a lower angle and the wood log as the entire BG...not sure if that was an option or not.

Nice colors on all of them - great set.

Definitely nice work without a Macro lens. DOF is really nice on the first one. With a Macro lens it takes a lot of work to get that DOF right.

Nice stuff, Stan.
I've been looking for new places to hike/shoot, and I've never been on it. Maybe time for a short trip this weekend.

The lily is a Tiger Lily.

No idea about the names except for the columbine (duh), but #6 is my pick!

Great bunch of shots. The pedals are all pristine.

I am really liking #s 1, 4, 5, and 6 with the stonecrop and lily as my favorites. Very nice work, Stan!

Make sure theres a west wind when you go Paul, thatll mitigate the feed lot smell

Very nice indeed! Looks like "Colorful Colorado" is true to its name right now!

A macro lens will give you a very shallow DOF and you would have to stack photos to get the whole flower in focus. A telephoto lens such as your 70-300 is a good choice. :toast:

I fly out next Friday, and off to Yankee Boy Basin and Crested Butte next Sunday! Can;t wait!!
