Well after months of trying to get the woody that visits my garden most days I have finally managed to get some shots of him out in the open.He usually feeds under my shady old apple tree that would have made a terrible image but having the patience has paid off and he now is coming more and more.I have enjoyed watching him so much and hoped he would bring a chick like he did last year, but sadly no chick as arrived.Light can still be a pain though if its to sunny and bright it doesn t work to shadowy so I had to try for a more even light if you know what I mean.

Very nice Karen :toast:

Shot is very good but have you removed something from the right hand side at the bottom and a bit further up ? if so you need to redo it.

Nice detail in the bird Karen, with such a nice background I may have been tempted to have a little less tree with a little more space to the right of the bird, but no big deal.

Must be my eyes as no one else seems to have a problem with it but the face and beak look soft/out of focus to me. Nice to get one in the garden though.

Good detail Karen and some lovely textures on that bark. I disagree with Andy Snape about the amount of tree. Woodpeckers are intrinsically tree birds and the setting is as important for me as the actual bird so I like to see a decent amount of the tree and in this one I think you have just the right balance Nice to have them in the garden isn't it and I can fully sympathise regarding the lighting for these, especially at this time of the year.

Very good capture Karen, looks sharp enough to me. Pose, perch and BG work well together.
