I went up to Chicago Creek last Monday since it was the holiday. Glad I didn't plan this Saturday as TC explained about the bike race. Yeah, I hit that last year. 30 minutes to get from Chicago Creek to Idaho Springs!
The Columbines were blooming quite nicely and not very far up the trail. So I spent a little time there. Really nice variety of different looks.

In the words of that great American philosopher, Morris McClung, "Oh Mommy!" What a fantastic series! The last one's not doing it for me, but every other one is just standout great. I think #2 is my favorite, since it is all about feeling.
I'll have to go with what Todd said. But, 1, 3 & a\4 are may favs.
Which lens or combination were you using?

Morris, Wonderful series. But I have to say #2 is hands down my favorite. The color of the background and the amount of DOF really make the flower stand out to superbness! Really a dreamy feel to it that I love.
Love'm all!! But if I had to pick one, it would be 1.

Nice set, Morris. I think a narrow DOF works great for these kinds of portraits. I found some nice bouquets of columbine in great looking granite on top of Columbine pass today but didn't have my camera, so I'm looking forward to going back!
Thanks all You are all very kind.
David, these are with my Sigma 28-135mm with a macro capability of close focusing. But not a true macro.
Kalin, I can't wait to see what you bring back.
For the rest of you, I can't wait to see what great wildflower shots all of you will bring in the next month!

The spotlit one is for me far and away my fav. Incredible!
I'm with Jack and Stan...#'s 1 & 4 are really excellent! The lighting on all of them is superb, though.

To me, #1 is the most captivating as the sharpness, contrast and color really stand out against the darker background. I might wish that the tip of the front petal was in focus (minor nit). Very nice!
For some reason, I like #3 for the bands of light and shadow across the flower, similar to sun through the window blinds on an early morning.

First shot is kind of a classic portrait attempt.
