Mono Craters & Afternoon Clouds

We got some really nice monsoonal moisture move in sat & sun here on the east side. while my wife spent the afternoon in June Lake I headed over to Mono Lake in hopes of some good black and white photography. I eventually wound up at the far east end of navy beach. I had "discovered" this isolated body of water over a year ago. Not sure if this is ground water seeping up or what? There was quite a bit of wind but lucked out with a handful of still reflections when the wind was kind enough to stop.

Not sure if this is a keeper for the portfolio or not, but thought I'd share.

I think that is part of the Mono Craters in the bg.

Keeper...great feeling of vast emptiness emphasized by the reflection.

Definitely a keeper! Beautiful clouds. I like it! You might consider a small CCW rotation. It looks like it leans just a bit right. Or maybe that is my head leaning?

I't more than OK in my book! I think it's straight, but it does give a slight feel that it isn't.

I do like it and the reflections of the clouds which are cool to look at. However I don't think it is on the same level as your other portfolio work I've seen online. For me the other elements beside the clouds are a bit too distant/smallish. But its still a nice image. BTW, how are the wildflowers picking up in your neck of the woods?

thanks for commenting Paul, Harley, Jeffrey, and Derek. I think Derek has summarized it rather well as to how I feel about this image.

Derek, I haven't been out in the hihg country yet, but I did hear Mcgee was good though.

thanks again for the feedback guys

I know that pond! Like the tones here, along with the clouds and reflection. Nicely done. My daughter and I spent the weekend in Mammoth had some ncie skies. The wildflowers up McGee Creek were amazing.

You've gotten a lot better at adjusting your contrast and midtones Cory. I'm sure you can get away with shooting at almost mid day now. Fantastic sky and reflection, it's still pretty nice as simple reflection. It doesn't have to have any other stark elements.

Wonderful reflection image, Cory. This is a great conversion, and really pulls me in with the rich tones. Does look a little tilted (clockwise).

Cory,
Very nice image. I see a trend that I like in your B&W conversions. You are bringing out a lot of mid-tones which makes the image look very rich. The reflection comp looks nice. Best Regards.

thanks rudy, steve, floris, and michael!
re the tilt, I thought it looked a bit off too and rotated it some. perhaps it's the barrel distortion?
thanks for mentioning the improvement to my processing work steve & michael. I think I've finally figured out how to use curves!! Learned I did, a couple things from that workshop I had last month. ;)
