European Eagle Owl (C) A little Different?
Hi everyone. I thought I'd try something different with this portrait. I think this magnificent bird lends itself to B&W. All comments most appreciated. Many thanks,
Paul Rosser. :wavey:

I think the black and white works very well Paul, especially with those striking orange eyes.

The eyes are obviously the main point of interest here Paul and as such the B/W and selective colour treatment works well to highlight them. On a personal note I am not a big fan of B/W in natural history images (except possibly when included within an environmental or documentary type image) and so would be keen to see you post a full colour version to be able to compare. I do like the composition which works well.

Striking image indeed Paul.Would a lighter background have made it even more so?

Not overly keen on colour popping nature images .Its a tadge clich'd but works well .

I echo marks comment here and is something I have done in the past.. I think the eyes do hold you but I'd like more detail in the feathers which I feel is suffering from lack of DOF.

I think that's really nice treatment and putting all the emphasis on the eyes works well. A greater depth of field would have lifted it a lot allowing a lot more texture to show in the B&W feathers, but even as it is I like it a lot.. Cliche? 95% at least of everything on here is a cliche.
