Back in Blighty for three months now I'd just like to share another image which gave me great pleasure in stumbling upon it.
Another Great Horned Owl but in a fantastic location Owl Canyon Arizona which is on the Navojo Reservation.
I'm going a bit ga ga it must be the heat getting to me, wrong lens yet again so I did the best I could with what I had. I had intended shooting panaramic landscapes hence the lens.
The light and colours were out of this world a full 16GB CF to show for it and we will go back.
I have far better examples but it's the not good enough ones, that I'm more interested in, to try and find out what I should have done or should be doing in PP.
Critique, Advice and Comment most welcome.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Barry
A shame really as the bird is in superb surroundings , but is just a little too small to be properly visible. You could try dodging the bird very carefully to brighten it up a little. Might be difficult though.
Love the sandstone formations. Worth some pics in their own right !
Cheers

You're spot on the money. I think what I was trying to demonstrate was OK I was wrong footed and in spectacular rock formations in 100 + degrees, harsh light. Not a tree for miles, and an owl pops along. The camera at least backs up the action, rather than suggest I should take more water with the imbibing.
Here is another just to endorse the level of rock formation the area is prone to vast flash floods which have formed these incredible areas.

That's one very desirable location to visit Barry - you'll have to smuggle me over next time you go; though it would take a mighty big suitcase
The only nit I would have over the first post is that you framed it badly - I know it's a grabber but it's worth bearing in mind for next time - more of the enviro to the left and below, and less OoF rock on the right.
I've seen a few shots of this place on the other NPN forums and I'm always consumed with envy
Oooo Barry, what an oppotunity, an owl in such a setting! But that's wildlife for you - won't show up when you want them to, but gurantee to turn up when you're not ready. I know this was a grab-shot but did you get one with the bird in the white space/sky? Fantastic location.

Showing an animal in its environment is great

Split seconds and gone and I was between a rock and a hard place within the canyon.
