Shag - (Phalacrocorax aristotelis)
Just find these birds fascinating, with their menacing looks, bright green eye and the almost Kodak yellow around the beak. This one was getting aggressive, as another persisted to fly low above it's head. Not the best BG, but if that's what you get, sadly no chance of moving position.

Phil S, with brighter weather I think the lichen is more in keeping, WDYT?

Good strong diagonal happening in the comp, great colour palette, nice BG, loads of subject detail and a bit of FG interest.

You're getting quite good at this picture-taking malarkey Judith  :toast: :toast:

Colours and pose are excellent. I like the way the iridescence on the neck is showing so well. Not sure what the issue is with the lichen - looks fine to me.

Great shot Stephen like the way the colour yellow on the Bill is echoed in the background.

Stephen
Been back to this a few times and can,t really make my mind up. :frown:
Technically good and action Natural History shot good but photographically (which they tell me is what this forum is all about,) I am not sure.
Somehow -it does not feel "comfortable" to my eye for want of a better word.
The lack of detail in the right eye spoils it slightly for me too. But then you would have to put something in which wasn,t there in the first place. The old story
Cheers
